Uniform Policy

General Requirements
  • Uniforms are required on every school day except on non-uniform days.  
  • Coats, non-uniform sweatshirts or sweaters, and hats are not part of the uniform and may not be worn inside school buildings.
  • Shirts should be tucked in when wearing a school sweater, sweatshirt or vest.

Grades K-2
Blouses and shirts
  • Plain white blouse or shirt with collar, long or short-sleeves
  • Plain white polo, long or short-sleeves
  • Plain white turtleneck 
Uniform Jumpers- Victoria plaid
  • Shorts may be worn under the jumper but should not be visible.
Pants, shorts or skorts
  • Classic navy, tailored, correctly sized, cords or pants; no stretch pants, cargo pants or sweatpants
  • Classic navy walking shorts or skorts longer than mid-thigh, no sweat shorts, cargo shorts or short shorts 
St. Francis of Assisi School red sweatshirts, sweaters and/or vests 
  • These must have the St. Francis of Assisi School logo.
 
Grades 3-6
Blouses and shirts

Grades 7& 8
Blouses and shirts
  • Plain white blouse or shirt with collar, long or short-sleeves
  • Plain white polo, long or short-sleeves
  • Plain white turtleneck

  • Shorts may be worn under the skirt but should not be visible

  • Classic navy cotton twill walking shorts or skorts longer than mid-thigh, no sweat shorts, cargo shorts or short shorts

All Grades
Shoes
  • Only athletic shoes no higher than the student’s ankle, high-top athletic shoes are acceptable
  • Students may bring rainboots to change into at recess 
Leggings in white, red, navy, gray or black are allowed under uniform skirts or jumpers.
Socks and tights are permitted in solid white, red, navy, gray or black only. 
St. Francis of Assisi School socks may also be worn.
Hair ornaments worn must not be distracting.
 
Dress Uniform
The dress uniform is worn for school Masses, school class picture day, and special occasions designated by the school. Dress uniform consists of:
  • Blouse or shirt (defined above)
  • St. Francis of Assisi School Uniform sweater or vest
  • Uniform skirt, jumper, or long pants (no shorts or skorts)
 
 
 
 
Dress Code
Uniforms are required on every school day except on non-uniform days.
The following guidelines apply to both uniform and non-uniform days:
  • All clothing fits, not too tightly or extremely loose.
  • There should be no holes, tears or other signs of excessive wear.
  • Hair is a natural hair color and must be kept clean and neat. 
  • Unusual hairstyles, such as mohawks, are not considered acceptable.
  • Hair must be out of the student's eyes.
  • No facial hair.
  • Pants and skirts must be hemmed.
  • There are no visible marks, drawings, or tattoos on your person.
  • Shirts are long enough to cover the midriff- no exposed skin at the stomach.
  • No deep, low cut necklines
  • Undershirts are white, no visible writing or pictures.
  • Shorts, dresses and skirts are longer than mid-thigh.
  • Pants and skirts are worn at the waist, which is above the hips.
  • Makeup and accessories should be moderate and appropriate for school.
  • Only ears may be pierced.
  • Shirts must be tucked in if they come past the hip.
 
 
Non-uniform Days/Free Dress
  • Stretch pants of any sort (yoga pants, leggings, jeggings, etc.) can only be worn on non-uniform days and must be covered by a dress or top that naturally comes to mid-thigh. This top cannot be rolled or pulled up.
  • Tank tops or spaghetti straps must be covered by an appropriate shirt.
 
Any student who does not meet the dress code requirements will be sent to the office. Students will be loaned appropriate clothing or parents or guardians may be called to bring their child appropriate clothing. Interpretations of the policy are at the discretion of the school staff.

Some uniform pieces, like shirts and pants, may be purchased at other retailers (i.e. Old Navy, Target, Macy's, JC Penny, Lollipops to name a few.)  We also host a Used Uniform sale twice a year in August and January.  Many uniform items including jumpers, skirts, pants, sweaters and sweatshirts are on sale.  For additional information about our Used Uniform sale or to donate, please contact Aoife Groppo at [email protected].
