Dear St. Francis of Assisi School Families and Community,

I want to follow up on yesterday's communication regarding an incident that occurred Monday morning, September 15th. At approximately 7:40 AM, our staff contacted Burien police through non-emergency channels about an individual sleeping in a parked vehicle on the street outside our southeast playground gate. The person appeared unresponsive, and the vehicle was not running.

Before opening carpool, we consulted with responding officers who confirmed we could proceed safely with our normal morning routine. The individual had awakened and exited the vehicle, and police remained on scene to assist them. An arrest was made, and the vehicle—which had expired registration—will be removed within 48-72 hours. I have obtained a case number and am requesting the full police report for our records. This was the only case reported to this address on Monday, September 15 according to Burien Police Administration.

Thank you for your vigilance and care for our school community. Your awareness helps keep our students, staff, and neighbors safe. Moving forward, I'm introducing a "Security Corner" in our weekly newsletter to share updates from our Safety Committee.

This Week's Safety Updates:
• Our Safety Committee meets every Monday at 9:15 am. We will be sending out a link for our parent position on this Committee soon.
• The School Commission will be meeting next Monday, September 22 at 7pm and will review our Safety and security.
• We submitted a safety grant application through the St. Joseph Foundation - Archdiocese of Seattle on Friday, September 12th.
• We continue strengthening partnerships between our school, parish, and local law enforcement.
• We maintain our commitment to reporting any suspicious activities promptly.
How You Can Help: If you observe anything concerning, please speak up immediately. Call 911 for emergencies, or 206-296-3311 for the King County Sheriff's non-emergency line. Together, we create a protective network that keeps our St. Francis community strong and secure.

Peace,
Mrs. Farewell
