Sept. 2022,
 I am looking forward to teaching 6th and 7th graders this year!  I have put

together this letter with the following general expectations for all my
classes. Please remember that students will have classes with other teachers who may have
different policies.
General Policies:
- Classroom Discipline: Students must 1. Follow directions, 2. Have all homework done, and
3. Use appropriate behavior (including language) in class. Generally, based on severity, the
consequences of noncompliance will be a few minutes of recess detention (or, if it’s a missing
assignment, until the work is completed). Of course, very serious or dangerous mistakes in
student choices may result in other consequences.
- BYOD Policy: Students are encouraged to Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) to my classes
(Chromebook suggested). All religion papers are done using Google Docs in each student’s
school Google Chrome email account. While I will have some technology available for students,
having their own device is much more efficient for student writing.
- Technology Policy: As we go ever further into this age of increased technology, new
challenges arise. Today, as has always been true, students who do not do their own work do
not learn the material as well. Therefore, if a student is found to be misusing technology in
my classes one or more of the following may result:
a. Parents will be notified via e-mail of the incident.
b. The assignment may result in a “0”.
c. The student may be given the opportunity to do an alternative assignment to demonstrate
knowledge of the subject.
d. The student’s computer usage privileges at school may be suspended for a time.
Students are also not allowed to use the school computer bandwidth to send memes, pictures,
videos, etc. that are not part of their schoolwork. Students who make this choice will have their
computer usage privileges at school suspended.
- Online Textbooks: I will have a link to an online Bible in my 7th grade religion Google
classroom :).
- Cell Phone policy: Cell phones cannot be used during my classes without permission. Cell
phones that are out without permission or that go off during my classes at school will be
collected, returned at the end of the day, and an email will be sent home.
- Google Classroom is a great source of information! Students will be
“invited” through their school Google Chrome accounts to be a part of each subject's Google classroom.
Students should access each Google classroom every day. I can also invite parents--although
the last couple of years a few parents each year have had to use their student’s password to get
into the site. An app is available that will notify users through their cell phones when the Google

classroom has been updated. Many students and parents love this feature! Homework updates
will be done by 6:00 each evening at the latest (barring tech. issues :).
- Please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. This is by far the best email
address for contacting me. Please make sure you type a “w”--not a “b”--or the email will not
reach me :).
- Uniform Policy: Students are expected to come into my classroom dressed in the
appropriate uniform as outlined in the Parent Handbook. Digital copies of the handbook can be
found on the school website.
- Homework: Yes, there will be homework :) up to an hour total for all classes a day and sometimes on weekends.
- Water During Class: For my classes students are encouraged to bring a water bottle.
GRADING FOR MR. RISPOLI’S CLASSES:
A. Some test and quiz grades will be based on a percentage of total possible points.
Others are based on rubrics. Writing assignments based on rubrics and lower than a 3
may be done again with permission from Mr. Rispoli (we need to talk about how to make sure
the second time will be successful).
B. All papers, as well as selected homework assignments, will be graded based on
rubrics.
C. Whether grading is based on percentages or rubrics, the grading symbols used will
be:
4 Exceeds Standards
3 Meets Standards
2 Moving Towards Standards
1 Not Meeting Standards

D. Student papers must be submitted via Google classroom using a Google doc.
Papers must be attached to the specific post designated for that assignment in the
classwork tab of that subject's Google classroom. Recognizing that unexpected tech issues
sometimes crop up, If there is a problem attaching an assignment students should
print a hard copy and hand it in to me in person. Any writing assignment or report
not handed in on the date due will be treated as a late assignment unless the

assignment is missing due to illness. Missing work will be graded one point lower-a
3 becomes a 2-unless it is due to illness. Late work is due 72 hours (3 days) after
the due date unless other arrangements have been worked out. Late work not
handed in by that time will not be accepted and a zero will be entered.
E. Education research (as well as my own observation over the years) has shown that
one of the most important tools in learning is correction of one’s own mistakes.
Therefore homework is corrected by students themselves under my direction.
F. Late work must be handed in within 72 hours (3 days) of the assignment due date.
When students are absent they should check assignments on my Google classroom
website to see and print/write down when and what homework is due and what tests
are coming up. This is super important! Homework is updated daily (by 6:00).
